Nelliyampathy is a breathtaking hill town that you cannot miss when you are in Palakkad. The area is surrounded by tea and coffee plantations, misty hills and evergreen forests and is located at an
altitude of 1,572 metres above sea level. The breathtaking scenery, emerald green forests and magnificent views of the Western Ghats are what make Nelliyampathy so famous. There are several waterfalls in the town, including the famous Nelliyampathy Falls, which are a must-see for visitors. Adventurers can also explore the natural splendour of the area on one of the many hiking trails in the city. The Karappara Suspension Bridge, Kesavanpara and Orange Farm are other attractions near Nelliampathy. 
Temperatures in Nelliyampathy range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius, so the climate there is pleasant all year round. The best time to visit Nelliyampathy is the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September.

SEETHARGUNDU VIEW POINT

On the western ghats of Nelliyampathy is where you may find the Seethargundu viewpoint. It is roughly 8 kilometres from Nelliyampathy. It is the ideal destination for photographers and those who enjoy the outdoors because it is perched on a cliff and provides stunning views of the valley.
The epic of the Ramayana is also connected to Seethargundu, which is where the place derives its name from. It is stated that during their fourteen-year vanavasam period, Mother Sita, Lakshmana, and Lord Rama rested here.
Around 100 feet high, Seethargundu's waterfall provides a spectacular perspective of the stone rows and paddy fields that coat the area in a lush green blanket.

MALAMPUZHA GARDEN

Facing the Malampuzha Dam is a beautifully landscaped garden called Malampuzha Garden. About 5 km separates it from the city of Palakkad. It is surrounded by well laid out flower beds and manicured lawns. Along the walkways are countless fountains and impressive sculptures, including the famous Yakshi sculpture by Sri Kanayi  Kunhiraman.
The garden is divided by a canal spanned by two suspension bridges. A cable car service that crosses over the garden  offers an outstanding aerial view of the landscape. The garden has a boating area as well. On weekends and holidays, the dam and the garden are illuminated at night.

Kava is located next to the Malampuzha Dam and is an ideal place for photographers who want to see a breathtaking sunset with bright colours. Rare birds and butterflies can be spotted in the forests on the way to Kava village. The chirping of the birds, the fresh cool air and the lush greenery make visiting this attraction a magical experience.

SILENT VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

A priceless reserve of rare plants and herbs can be found in Silent Valley National Park, located in the Kundali Hills of the Western Ghats. As this park is the last representative virgin area of evergreen tropical forest in India, a visit here should be a solitary experience. For those who love nature and wildlife, it is one of the most famous nodes
of biodiversity.
The 89.52 square kilometre park is known for its great biodiversity. The lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri langur, the Malabar giant squirrel, the Indian elephant, the Bengal tiger and the Indian rock python are just some of the rare and endangered animal and plant species that call this place home.

PARAMBIKULAM TIGER RESERVE

The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is a protected ecological sanctuary in the districts of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad in Kerala.
It is home to a variety of animals and plants, including tigers, leopards, elephants, gaurs, sambar deer and sloths, and is one of the few remaining wildlife sanctuaries in the Western Ghats. More than 268 different bird species, including the great Indian hornbill, grey-headed bulbul and black-throated munia, can be found here.
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is one of the most attractive places in the entire Western Ghats due to its biodiversity, abundance of wildlife and natural beauty.

POTHUNDI DAM GARDEN

DISTANCE FROM JYOTHIS RESIDENCY : 7.1 Km

Pothundi Dam, one of the oldest dams in India, was built in the 19th century for irrigation. The wall made of quicklime and jaggery makes it a remarkable engineering marvel. The dam, located on the road to the Nelliyampathy Hills, supplies drinking water to the Nemmara, Ayalur, and Melarcode panchayats and provides irrigation to 5,470 hectares of land in Palakkad district. The dam, built across the Padipuzha and Meenichiladipuzha rivers, forms a 30-kilometer-long reservoir.

At the entrance, a magnificently planted and manicured dam garden welcomes guests. The garden is designed to please both young and old with a variety of rides and well-tended trees and plants. An incredible sight is the breathtaking view of the serene surroundings of the dam with the hills framing the reservoir.
To get to the top of the dam, you must cross the garden. The climb to the top of the dam may seem arduous, but it is well worth it. Once at the top, you will be treated to a breathtaking view of the Nelliyampathy Hills. You can take a walk on the crest for a panoramic view of the dam with the hills on one side.

NENMARA VALLANGI VELA

SEASON : First Week Of April ( 20th day of Meenam )

The village of Nenmara in Palakkad district hosts the annual Nenmara Vallangi Vela Festival. On the 20th day of Meenam (a Malayalam month), a festival honouring goddess Bhagavathy is held at the Sri Nellikulangara Bhagawathy temple.

The festival is known for its colorful and lively processions with decorated elephants, traditional music and dance performances, and numerous cultural activities. The Panchavadyam, a traditional musical performance with five different instruments (Thimila, Maddalam, Ilathalam, Edakka and Kombu), is the main attraction of the
festival.
One of the main attractions of the festival is its firework display, which is regarded as the best among the other festivities in Kerala. The fireworks are so loud that they are regarded as Asia's and possibly the world's loudest fireworks. The competition between the two desoms of Vallangi and Nemmara is what gives this celebration its competitive aspect. People from other states and other nations travel to experience the pomp of the festival.

KALPATHI RATHOLSAVAM

SEASON : Second  Week Of November

Kalpathi Ratholsavam or the Chariot Festival is held every year at the Sri Visalakshi Sametha Sri Viswanatha Swamy temple (located on the river Nila) in Kalpathy village in Palakkad. It is one of the most important festivals in Kerala. The temple is considered to be the oldest Lord Shiva temple in Malabar. It is the most attractive aspect of the ten-day festival held in November. The chariot is driven around on the last two days of the festival, which is known as Kalpathi Ratholsavam.
The annual Chariot Festival is a tribute to Indian culture and traditions that the people of Kerala have worked hard to preserve. The event is an unmissable spectacle and the weather is ideal during the festival.

AYALUR SIVA TEMPLE RATHOLSAVAM

SEASON : December-January ( Month of Dhanu )

Ayalur Shiva Temple is located at Ayalur near Nemmara on the banks of Ayalur River. The sankalpa is that of Shiva performing tapas and the deity is known as Akhileswaran - meaning the 'god of the people'. 

The famous Ayalur Temple Ratholsavam is held on the Thiruvathira nakshatra in the month of Dhanu (Malayalam Calendar), which usually falls during the months of December or January.

Procession by five caparisoned elephants with Panchari Melam,Pandi Melam, Panchavadhyam, Thayambaka and traditional art forms like Kathakali, Carnatic Music and Classical dance performances are held on this important on this day apart from the Radham Ezhunnallippu. The chariot is so huge that it takes several elephants to push it around.
